28 November 2021.
I got my first order on my new Fiverr account. I had deactivated my first account because I wanted to change my name. Fiverr doesn’t allow you to change your username, so I had to create another account to get the username inu_etc.
I designed an e-commerce website for the client and managed Meta ads. Over the years, I’ve also worked with her on more website development and digital marketing projects.
Recently, she hired me again for a long-term project where I’m helping her manage social media, video editing, content creation, and course creation on Kajabi.
We mostly communicate via email, and she mentioned in one of her emails: “I would NEVER abandon you; you will ALWAYS be my go-to guy as long as you want to work with me.”
Then she referred me to another long-term client for YouTube video editing.
She also shared an updated version of her testimonial video. You can watch it here.
So, how do you get high-value clients, keep them happy, work with them long-term, and actually enjoy it without compromising your freedom or mental health?
Honestly, this isn’t possible with every client.
But sometimes, you’ll get a client like this, someone you enjoy talking to, someone you’ll overdeliver for without even realizing it.
I know it’s rare, so make sure you follow these 5 deal-closing rules for high-value clients:
Clarify requirements upfront.
- Always jump on a video or audio call (or text actively).
- Make sure you fully understand what the client wants.
- Never work with anyone who stays vague or unresponsive.
Underpromise & overdeliver.
- Set realistic expectations.
- Keep them updated — and then surprise them with extra value. Going the extra mile earns repeat work, positive reviews, and referrals.
Avoid unclear or underpaying clients.
- If a client’s expectations are unclear, or they try to underpay you below your worth, don’t hesitate to decline (or refund fast — yes, I once refunded $700!).
Watch for warning signs.
- On Fiverr and other freelancing platforms: check buyer reviews & ratings.
- Off-platform: Google them, scan LinkedIn/Instagram for red flags.
Stick to your expertise & keep learning.
- Offer services you love and know well.
- Continuously sharpen both core skills, and complementary ones (sales, communication) to boost your confidence, authority, and rates.
Keep these principles in mind to win high-value clients, earn 5-star reviews, and grow a sustainable freelance career.
Remember: It’s not just what you do, it’s who you become for your client. Build trust, deliver excellence, and the referrals and long-term partnerships will follow.
